Our volunteers make all of the work we do possible. They go above and beyond for the animals, the shelter, and the Nashville community every day. Each and every one of our volunteers is an invaluable member of our team, but we like to take the time every month to highlight one special someone through our Volunteer of the Month segment. Check out some of these amazing animal lovers below!

Volunteer of the Month

December 2022, Randy Clinker!

We knew right from the beginning that we were going to love having Randy here. He is such a light and brings so much positivity and joy wherever he goes. He is here at least twice a week to make sure the dogs get their time outside filled with lots of love! In just a few months, Randy has advanced as a dog walker, so he can expand the number and type of dogs he’s interacting with. Randy is a patient friend to our fearful dogs, always giving them the space they need while simultaneously letting her know how loved they are! The work Randy does on a consistent basis makes a huge difference in the lives of these dogs. A thousand Randys would be awesome, but we’re so glad you’re one of a kind! Randy, you bring a smile to everyone’s face when you’re here, and we’re so lucky that you are committed to loving these dogs time and time again. We so appreciate you!

November 2022, Lizzie Agee!

This girl does it all. Her willingness to jump into a project with unparalleled enthusiasm and dedication is something to be admired. No task is too big or too small for her. Lizzie anticipates a need and fills it instantly before anyone realizes something was amiss. She is constantly moving, working, and excelling. In just a few short months, Lizzie has volunteered over 150 hours! If you’re wondering if that’s a lot – it IS! Not only is Lizzie an absolute pro in the Cat Showroom, she has been such a valuable asset to our Vet Services Team. This girl has gone out with Rover in and around Middle Tennessee to support data entry of spay and neuter surgeries with partner shelters! She is a jack of all trades and a master of all of them! Lizzie, we could sing your praises for days on end.We are beyond thankful for everything you do, Lizzie! Can we be you when we grow up!?!

October 2022, Hannah Coppinger!

Hannah has made such an impact on the shelter in her two years with us! There is so much that can be said about her passion for and commitment to these animals and this mission. Hannah touches almost every pocket of shelter operations, which only serves to elevate the work that we are able to do. She is a pick up QUEEN, whether it’s items OR dogs! Hannah will grab anything and everything and make sure it gets to the shelter ASAP. She is such a positive spirit and possesses a willingness to serve that we are so thankful for. Hannah has also been a constant, encouraging presence for our Transport Team. Day or night, rain or shine, Hannah is there! The picture here is a testament to her service when we received beagles at a late hour. Hannah, you are one of a kind! We think the world of you and are so thankful to have you as one of our own!

September 2022, Savannah Jackson!

To know Savannah is to experience countless laughs and endless joy! She just hit her two year mark with NHA (!!!), and a little over a year ago, Savannah stepped into the Lead Volunteer role to train new volunteers for the Dog Care Team. Savannah spends innumerable hours with our dogs on early weekend mornings. She is quite the expert with our extremely fearful and under-socialized dogs. Savannah takes a book with her and sits with dogs to familiarize them with a human presence. One of Savannah’s personal favorites, Sandra, always loved to sit and exist with Savannah by her side. Savannah is such an asset to the NHA Team! She is constantly willing to learn more about shelter operations and challenge herself outside her comfort zone. Savannah has such a zeal for life, and we could not be more thankful for how she cares for these animals and our people. Savannah, we are so thankful for you!

August 2022, Mollie Bee!

Mollie has been with us since 2019, and recently, we’ve been so lucky to witness the greater impact she’s having on our community by loving on these animals and serving the shelter. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone with as much empathy, patience, and understanding as Mollie. She recently became a Yellow Level Dog Walker and has such an attentive eye for those shyer, fearful dogs. Mollie has an interest in and aptitude for dog behavior, which allows for her time with the dogs to be fruitful and relaxing. Mollie is always so quick to lend a helping hand. If she finishes with dogs early, she’s finding a way to help Animal Care with dishes, laundry, or cleaning. You can always count on Mollie to have a positive attitude and a willingness to serve. Pictured here: Mollie is helping with her first transport IN THE RAIN! Mollie, we are so thankful for your uplifting presence and ongoing impact on this shelter and these animals. How lucky we are to have you!

In the spring of 2019, NHA began revamping our volunteer program. We’re introducing programs for skilled volunteers, animal training for volunteers, and so much more.  We’re looking to build a volunteer force that is empowered to do so much great work for homeless and adoptable animals.
