Volunteer of the Month December 2021 – Daniel Broughton
Daniel has only been with us for a few months, but already, we have been blown away by the ways in which he’s stepped into his role and found his place here at NHA. To be with Daniel is to share many laughs and stories. There is a joy about him that puts a smile on the face of everyone who meets him. When Daniel first started with us, it was because he had a love for animals. However, this passion soon blossomed into something much more profound. He began to learn the ins and outs of animal welfare and reflected on the state of their well-being, both mentally and physically. Daniel is now pursuing a project in school, through which he’ll assess and ascertain the mental health of shelter animals and how/what enrichment can aid their experience. When Daniel’s here, he’s THE man of the cat room! This is coming from the guy who claimed “not to be a cat person” when he started. Now, he knows the cats like no other. Daniel possesses an intuition that allows him to read and understand body language and behavior. He also engages with the public and advocates for these cats and rejoices when he’s sent them to their forever home. Daniel, we are so thankful for your heart and dedication to this shelter and these animals. We are so looking forward to the years ahead for all that you’ll do and accomplish!
