Adoption is Just the Beginning!
The 3-3-3 rule is a helpful reminder that settling into a new home takes time. When a pet leaves the shelter and enters a new environment, everything is unfamiliar: the sights, sounds, routines, and people.
In general, pets can take about 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your routine, and 3 months to truly feel at home. These timelines aren’t strict rules, but a guide to help set expectations during an important transition period.
The first few days are often about adjustment and observation. The next few weeks are when pets begin to understand daily life and build trust. Over the following months, confidence grows, routines feel familiar, and their personality starts to fully shine.
Every animal adjusts differently, and progress isn’t always linear. Some days may feel like big steps forward, while others may feel slower, but all of it is part of the process.
And what may look like small progress at first often turns into something extraordinary: a lasting bond and a lifetime of unconditional love!
