Should rehoming prove necessary – Nashville Humane recommends a few different courses of action when attempting to rehome your pet.
Direct Adoption
Direct adoption is the least stressful transition for your pet of all the adoptions possible. No one knows your pet like you, so you can be their greatest advocate. Check out our Directory of Resources for additional tips on how to find the best new home for your pet. Also, this Nashville Pet Rehoming Facebook group has been a great resource for many families looking to rehome their pet.
Surrendering Your Animal
As a managed admission shelter, Nashville Humane requires all potential applicants who may want their pet to be considered for admission into our program to go through our application process. Nashville Humane manages intake to ensure that animals in our care are housed humanely and given as much time as it takes to find their perfect match.
If you would like to be considered for admission into our program, you can contact our Intake Coordinator to discuss options and scheduling.
Never Abandon Your Animal
Abandoning your animal puts their life at risk and is illegal. Metro Nashville Code 8.12.030 states that animal abandonment is illegal in Nashville/Davidson County and punishable by law.
