Welcome to our next Team Takeover! Want to know more about the behind-the-scenes of Nashville Humane? This is your chance! You’ll get to hear from our staff and volunteers about what they experience, what they are passionate about, and what they think the community should know. The work we do and the lives we save wouldn’t be possible without our team and we want you to know them better! It is hard to grasp what the shelter world is really like without working in it, but we hope these takeovers give our community a better understanding of our work and mission!

This month, we will be hearing from our Executive Director, Laura Baker.
Laura Baker has been a passionate animal welfare advocate with 15 years of experience in the field, including 8 years at Nashville Humane. From starting as a volunteer in college to becoming the Executive Director of Nashville Humane Association, Laura has dedicated her career to improving the lives of shelter animals and pet owners. She’s led groundbreaking initiatives like Nashville’s first reunification station and worked tirelessly to change how communities view shelters.
Beyond her professional life, Laura is a mother, an animal welfare leader, and a volunteer who helps in various causes. In 2023, she helped Nashville Humane become the first shelter in the Southeast U.S. to achieve Kulture City certification, making it more accessible to all clients, including those with sensory needs. With an innovative approach to animal welfare, Laura continues to make a significant impact in her community.
Get to know more about Laura’s journey, her life-changing work, and how she’s helping animals and people alike in her NashvilleVoyager Magazine feature. We are grateful to have Laura on Team NHA and can’t think of anyone better to be part of the Inspiring Stories series.
