Celebrating 80 Years of Keeping Nashville Humane
This month, Nashville Humane Association officially turns 80!
On March 9, 1946, our doors opened with one simple mission: to protect and care for animals in our community. Eight decades later, that mission still guides everything we do, and continues to grow alongside the city we serve.
For 80 years, Nashville Humane has been a place of hope. A safe haven for at-risk, homeless, and adoptable pets. A resource for families. A partner in building a more compassionate community. And none of it would be possible without you.
To our adopters, volunteers, fosters, donors, and dedicated staff, you are the reason we are here today. Because of your support, thousands of animals each year are given a second chance at a healthier, happier life. You’ve helped turn moments of uncertainty into new beginnings and given generations of pets the love they deserve.
Eighty years is more than a milestone. It’s thousands of lives saved. It’s countless wagging tails and quiet purrs. It’s families made whole through adoption. It’s generations of compassionate Nashvillians coming together for a shared purpose.
From our earliest days, captured in black-and-white photographs, to the lifesaving work happening in our shelter today, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to keeping Nashville humane.

Join Us for Our 80th Birthday Open House
As part of the celebration, we’re inviting the community to celebrate with us in person at our 80th Birthday Open House on March 26th, from 1 – 7 PM!
This special event is a chance to see our mission in action, learn more about the impact you help make possible, meet adoptable animals, and celebrate with fellow animal lovers!
To mark the occasion, we’re also offering $80 off adoption fees… because there’s no better way to celebrate 80 years than by helping more pets find loving homes!
And even if you’re not looking to adopt, we hope you’ll still join us. Come tour the shelter, meet our team, and be part of this meaningful milestone.
