Bringing home a new pet is an exciting milestone, and at Nashville Humane, we want to make sure you and your newest family member have the best possible start together!
Many people know that adopting saves a life, but what they don’t always realize is everything that’s included with an adoption from Nashville Humane. Let’s take a look!
Every Adopted Pet Receives Essential Veterinary Care
Before any dog or cat is made available for adoption, they receive high-quality medical care from our veterinary team. That means that every adopted pet goes home:
- Spayed or neutered
- Up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations
- Microchipped
- Fully examined by our veterinary team
This means you can feel confident knowing your new pet has already received the essential medical care needed to begin their new chapter with you!
A Complimentary First Veterinary Exam at VCA Animal Hospitals
Your support doesn’t end when you leave our shelter.
Thanks to our partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals, every adopter receives a certificate for a complimentary first health exam at participating locations. Simply schedule your appointment within 14 days of adoption, let the VCA team know your pet was adopted from Nashville Humane, and bring the certificate included in your adoption packet to your visit.
If the veterinarian determines that your newly adopted pet needs a follow-up appointment within the next 14 days, VCA may also cover up to $250 in follow-up care!
This benefit can help with common post-adoption concerns such as diarrhea, vomiting, kennel cough, suture removal, skin infections, and other conditions your veterinarian determines require follow-up care.
Free Specialty Eye Exam Through Veterinary Ophthalmology Services
Thanks to our partnership with Veterinary Ophthalmology Services (VOS), Nashville Humane adopters also receive access to specialized eye care. To redeem this benefit, simply bring the VOS flyer and your adoption paperwork to your scheduled appointment.
Adopters receive a complimentary Rescue Eye Exam ($260 value) when scheduled within the first six months after adoption. The exam includes:
- Comprehensive eye examination
- Schirmer tear testing
- Intraocular pressure testing
- Fluorescein staining, when appropriate
